Summary: VES is looking for an Application Engineer to join our drill bits team in our Saudi Arabia, Dammam location. The Application Engineer will focus on providing technical support to customers, sales, and engineering departments. They will also be responsible for overseeing the technical performance of assigned products by reviewing/analyzing all customer complaints, identifying concerns, and opportunities for improved product performance. The Application Engineer will also create technical reports to sales and application management team and follow company safety policies and procedures.         

The successful candidate will define quarterly and annual objectives that align with company, business unit, and function goals and specifies what is to be done at lower levels to achieve them. Applications apply strategic focus in line with our geographic and/ or customer focused coupled with differentiating VES within the sector due to being recognized as maximizing client value. Additionally be accountable in providing technical reactive support, operational recommendations, engineering engagement, operational processes and defining technical strategic focus supporting sales.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provides a technical pre and post job analysis for products by compiling a case history to assist sales, product enhancement, and R&D.   Contribution to the evolution of product design according to customer needs by; obtaining, gathering, analaysing and reporting information required in product design (new requirements, improvements or modifications) along with contributing to phase in / out product depending on development and obsolescence. Establishes test plans for new products or materials, order and plan tests to deliver run report and analyses the tests.  Keeps abreast of competitor product developments and opportunities and other drilling technology by developing established performance benchmarks of VES versus competitor products.  
  • Maintains close and constant interface with operator technical teams, both rig sites and office-based, ensuring a technical focal point to mitigate/solve issues related to actual or perceived product performance.    
  • Assist the customers, sales and technical teams to provide and advise that offers a fit for purpose technical solution and enhancement for the operator’s project. Prepare and present technical and design presentations, support sales teams in drill bit and PCE selection and requirements for customer proposals and tenders.    
  • Works closely with sales to ensure the customer receives best-in-class service and trouble shoot technical problems and issues and determine solutions in accordance with customer expectations. 
  • Coordinates the NCR (Non-Conformance Report) process in the areas of concern within the company protocol.            
  • Performs other duties and participates in special projects as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Ability to:
  • demonstrate a track record and experience in a technical applications role.
  • to communicate technically face-to-face with engineers and operators to resolve product incidents and promote product lines and solutions.
  • show strong oral and written communication skills to create reports and correspondence.
  • run simulations using centralizer placement  torque and drag software.

  • assist sales team to promote VES products
Proficiency with:
Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook), Tad-Pro, Centra Design

Education & Knowledge

  • Degree in Mechanical or Mining Engineering, Bachelor / Master of sciences in geology, physics or mechanics from an accredited university.                                                         
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record with ability to maintain an acceptable driving record in line with company requirements.
  • Knowledge of the drilling industry and PCE applications.
  • Knowledge of general office and sales practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of drilling equipment used in assigned territory.
  • Knowledge of customer operations in assigned territory essential.
  • Simulation software skills.
  • Drill bit and PCE design management.
     
Work Experience
Typically, experience in the petroleum industry technically supporting drilling and PCE equipment
